Thing 23 - The End of the Road

Whew; made it! I'm glad I was encouraged to continue when I was bogged down and ready to pack it in about halfway through. Extending the dealine really helped too. Anyway, I did learn alot! (You CAN teach an old dog...) I'll need to make a point of going back through this again and exploring some areas in a little more depth (or just- again). Some favorites were flickr, and image generators and youtube. Of all the 'things', I may most use my Bloglines account and RSS feeds.
I'm glad LCPL made it a systemwide offering and supported the journey for all staff. I would definitely choose to participate if a similar program were again offered.

NetLibrary - Thing 22

I'm familiar with these resources. Great to have this option available to our customers. Sure wish the NetLibrary access was more user friendly, though.
I did download a SMALL file for this exercise. If I didn't have dial-up, I'd definitely use OverDrive much more often. Nice titles. I'll have to try to download a title to my new MP3 player when I get it (and have an overnight to leave the computer online)!

Thing 21: Podcasts

Well, I did some exploring and didn’t find terribly much of interest. There doesn’t seem to be nearly the expanse of podcast ‘stuff’ out there, as say, on YouTube. I’ve never been a big fan of words on audio anyway, since I’m not an audio learner - I prefer to read... There didn’t seem to be a lot of library related podcasts that appealed to me at first glance. I did pull in the LibVibe feed to check out, though. I’ll continue to go back and explore more later, as time permits.

YouTube - Thing 20

What I liked most about YouTube was the sheer quantity and diversity of items there. I could find an item for just about every subject I could think of. Quite a few library related ones too. Seems particularly good for promotion of various services.
And I can't wait to try the library dominoes during the next book sale. I chose this particular video because it seems like librarians and superheros have alot in common.
"We are a public service not glamour boys!"

Thing 19 - Best of 2.0

Since I have never been able to explore these from home (verrry slow dial-up), I took the time to briefly explore YouTube, Odeo, and last.fm (movies, podcasts, music, etc) - The sheer number of 'things' and variety of 'stuff' on these sites are amazing! It's probably best for my at-home productivity that I can't use these. These were all pretty easy to navigate too, though I spent way too much time exploring. I also liked the format of newsvine, which I looked at very briefly.
